HELP! Can't persuade parents that Berkeley > Irvine!

I'm thinking that if my parents are absolutely against Berkeley and they won't budge, I'll most likely end up going to UCLA. Which is fine with me, but I'd prefer Berkeley as I feel as though it suit my personality more.
Oh, we've talked several times. But it feels as if my dad never listens to my side of the story and only says 'absolutely NO Berkeley. go to Irvine.'
So the point of this whole post [thanks to Elliott =)] is to find some substantial support for my case. Then I'll have yet another chat with my dad and hope to persuade him.
If not, UCLA here I come!
[oh and although my dad prefers Irvine, I'm pretty sure if I decide to go to LA he'll let me]

are you ok with the quarter system? ucla is also a somewhat bigger school, if you count graduates.

I don't know. I've heard that the quarter system goes by quicker and is pretty stressful, but is easier than the semester system...
I don't really know too much about it though.

I don't know about the quarter system being easier than the semester system... for me, I'd prefer two sets of midterms and finals over three.

Parents regardless of race may not tell their kids their real finanacial situation. So be careful and don't not crack the "pillar".

Donjuan there is safety concern too. A lot of Asian (wrongly) think riding a plane is more dangerous than driving.

In the end, a college education is a gift from the parents..... a compromise is the way to go.

Michelle, you seem to be very mature. You will do well no matter where you do. I chose JC over Berkeley in 1975..that is right! Unthinkable? This Fall I am sending my D1 to UC Hastings Schoole of Law (she grdauated from Cal in 3 years with a Rhetoric degree) and D2 to UCI. I will be spending $250K in the next 4 years for their education. My Ds and I are very lucky. They know they are getting a gift-:))

Aww I think your daughters are lucky to have you too. =]

Thanks for all the advice...

Hm, I guess that financial issues would be the main concern here. Any suggestions?

You can also look for a summer job to help out your Dad's finances. ...you can reach out for Cal students who travel to/from Irvine (home) for next to free rides. This may help ease your Dad's concern.

Commit to your parents that you will stay connected (thereby giving them assurance that you are OK and safe) by calling them when you walk bwtween classes. D1' Mom loved it and actually helped strengthen the relationship.
