I'm a sophomore, but I want to start thinking about which colleges that I should apply to/would be a good match for me. My PSAT score is on the low side, but with prep I expect (or really hope haha) that it will improve significantly. As of right now, my top/dream schools are: UC Berkeley, UPenn, Brown, and Georgetown. (I have legacy and UPenn and Brown.)

If you can give me any more ideas about schools that may be a good fit for me, I would really appreciate it. Also, if you have suggestions about how to go about being prepared and ready for applying to the types of schools that I listed, I will be forever grateful :)

Thank you!!

Best suggestion is to get off CC. It’s just going to stress you and way to many people enjoy writing harsh comments.

@TigerCC2014 I appreciate your comment and fair warning, but part of the reason that I posted is to be scrutinized by peers. I have contemplated thoroughly about posting before, and I know that I can handle the stress and negative feedback. I really do appreciate your concern, though.

@Spirral Class ranks are announced at the beginning of senior year. I think that with my GPA I fall in the top 10%

Your GPA is fine but if you want a real shot at any of those schools you’re gonna need to aim for at least a 2200/32 on the SAT or ACT. Your ECs are varied but nothing really stands out. schools want to know you’re passionate about something so it’s best to have a couple clubs or internships in an area that you’re interested in or planning to major in. Also get some leadership positions for good measure.

My thread (chance back please): <a href=“Chances for Vanderbilt, UNC, NYU, UF, and Duke? - Chance Me / Match Me! - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1610985-chances-for-vanderbilt-unc-nyu-uf-and-duke-p1.html

@sloth83 Thanks for the feedback! To be honest, I have no idea what I want to major in yet, or even which field that I want to study. I enjoy all of the ECs that I am in equally, so I guess that’s why they are pretty sporadic. Can you give specific examples of what I should do in this case?

Also, I would chance you back, but being a sophomore, I don’t know too much yet about what colleges are really looking for. I wish you the best of look, though!

Well dont feel like its necessary to choose your major before you go to college, just don’t pack your resume with clubs just for the sake of being in tons of clubs (im not saying that’s what you’re doing, its just that a lot of kids do that rather than joining clubs that actually interest them. Admissions officers can see this type of thing).
