I am a sophomore at a local community college looking to transfer in Fall 2018. I would like some input or feedback between USC Columbia and Clemson University. I want to go to a school with a friendly atmosphere and a lot of things to do in the area. Many organizations and clubs and greek life as well.
there are a ton of clubs, greeks, things to do at both.
the main difference is one is more urban and one is a college town, and Clemson offers more life science majors because it has an agricultural school.
Clemson is near the Blue Ridge mountains, you can see them from campus, and a lake is right next to campus, and it has its own golf course right next to campus.
Do you know anything about USC Columbia. I am just now looking at schools in state. And schools out of state as well. I feel as though I don’t have very many options in SC and I would like to go to college at least in the city or close to the city.
Your question is too general. If you are in-state, please go visit these schools in person. What do you want to study? As @Hartwell mentioned, USC is more in town. Can walk most places including entertainment districts. Won’t have much luck living on campus since that’s mostly freshmen (and honors college). Clemson may be similar. Really, what you want to study should help you determine - along with cost of course.
Both have Greek life and big time sports.
College of Charleston is a public school and right in the heart of downtown Charleston. that is the most urban in SC, followed by Uni of South Carolina. Winthrop is another public university, in Rock Hill, it is more urban than Clemson.
I attended USC for two semesters. It is a good university.
What do you plan to major in? How’s your GPA? Clemson and USC have gotten fairly competitive for admission.
My major is Pre-Nursing but I will start my major courses in Summer 2017 as of right now my gpa is a 3.5
I’ll have to visit them both in person. I don’t mind going to school in SC to save money but I have also looked into other places as well such as ECU & UNC Charlotte just because I am family down there and I am originally from NC. Thanks for all the comments.
Nursing is an extremely competitive major at Clemson, I’m not sure about USC.
I’ll keep looking around there are other schools I am interested in besides schools in my state. Anyways thanks for the comments and thanks for the help.
USC also has pretty competitive nursing with admittance to upper division/major after sophomore year (I think). You have to have taken specific courses and have very high GPA to get in. I would contact the nursing schools at Clemson and USC to see if you would even be competitive. Not sure how CofC works, but know lots of students there that loved the nursing program since had the hospital and med school right there.
Also check out Lander, another public school with nursing. My cousin got her nursing degree there. Not sure what Winthrop has.
CofC does not have a nursing program. MUSC does.
