I am in my sophomore year of community college in California and plan to transfer to Texas A&M for Petroleum engineering in 2014. So far I have a 4.0 GPA and am definitely planning to take Chem, Calc 2, and Physics in the Fall. I am planning on taking two more classes to which I can choose from Statistics, Linear Algebra, Technical Writing, and Physical Geography. So from those four listed, which two should I take to improve my chances of admission into TAMU. I was thinking to take Statistics and Linear Algebra because engineering is so math intensive but on their website it recommends Technical Writing for transfer students (Which I could take over winter). All I want to know is what would look most appealing to admissions when I apply. Thanks in advance.

Math 151-152-251 look like calculus 1-2-3 (1-2-3-4 on the quarter system), so take those. Also take a differential equations course to cover Math 308 (may be combined with linear algebra at some schools).

Take whatever engineering physics courses cover mechanics, E&M, and optics.

MEEN 221 and 227 look like common lower division mechanical engineering courses; check your CC for similar courses (look up the articulation list for ME at a UC or CSU on [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) ).

CVEN 305 looks like a common engineering materials course; see if your CC has that.

Chemistry it looks like you are taking anyway.

ENGR 111-112 has a mixture of topics including computing for engineers (probably using MATLAB), electronics, and statistics. See what courses your CC offers to cover these topics.

GEOL 104 is an introductory geology (not geography) course. See if your CC has that.

Of course, tech writing would be helpful.

University core curriculum are breadth courses; look for those similar to Texas A&M’s list.

KINE 198-199 look like PE courses.
