Help!! Connecticut College or Muhlenberg?

I have 3 days to decide between Conn College and Muhlenberg. I would have to take out some loans for Conn but none for Muhlenberg. I really don’t know which one to choose – I like aspects of both and kind of like Conn better, I’m just not sure if it’s worth the extra money. I plan on majoring in psychology but might also be interested in public health or neuroscience. Any advice would be appreciated!!

Depends on how much more

@privatebanker it’s about a $15,000/per year difference

If it’s ok with your parents it’s ok. Especially since you like conn coll better. Muhlenberg offers many of the same benefits too. But a happy student is a successful student in my book

@privatebanker do you think Conn is a better school overall? I just don’t know if I can justify spending $60k more (over the course of four years) for Conn if Muhlenberg is considered equivalent

You said you would have to take out some loans. How much debt would you be in at the end of four years?

@gallentjill about $30,000

My personal view is that if there is any way to graduate with no debt, you should do it. It allows you so much flexibility to start your life, to choose your career, to buy a house or go to graduate school. That said, 30K is not extremely excessive. If it were me, I would choose Muhlenberg in a heartbeat, but if you truly love Conn College significantly more, I could understand making that choice. Just keep in mind the peace of mind you will be giving up.

Also, if there is any chance you will be looking at paying for Grad School then the choice is a no brainer. Take Muhlenberg.

For a psychology degree (every college has psychology) I would do Muhlenberg. Save the money.

In New England Conn Coll is very well known and respected. It’s known to be fairly preppy and a pretty elite LAC at the trinity college level. Which Is terrific.

Muhlenberg is better known in its area and by LAC aficionados, sophisticated employers and grad schools. But my knowledge of them ends there.

my instincts suggest you’ll get more notice with conn coll on the resume.

I like the vibe of Muhlenberg better. Conn is preppier. My kid felt like it was too preppy (and she doesn’t mind some preppy —but Conn was overboard for her). Don’t worry so much about the resume. Conn isn’t going to open more doors in my opinion.
