Help differentiating questions on app for Rice!

Hello all,
On my transfer common app to Rice, they ask for a personal essay that states "Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve. "

and then in the Supplement it asks "What motivated you to transfer to Rice University? Please be specific and limit your response to 200 words. "

I understand that one is an essay and the other is a short answer, but I found that these two basically said the same thing to me. Anybody who can help me differentiate this, or tips on what to write on one and not the other one?

The large statement prompts you to look to the future whereas the short answer prompts you to look to the past.

Huh… well that seems easy enough. Haha. Would it be wrong to include personal things in the larger statement that prompts to the future or just sticks to academics in that one?

Definitely include personal things in the larger statement - your future is just that after all, yours. :)
