Hi all, I need your help.

I recently dropped an elective because I was doing very very poorly (like C/D level), and I knew that I would not be able to get a good final mark. I did not enjoy the course (a STEM course which I am not good at), and the teacher was not helpful at all. I was taking 5 courses (my counsellor strongly recommended I did not do that but I still did), and felt that the courseload was too much. I truly felt my mental health suffering, and I knew that if I continued with the course, I would have had a breakdown and would have suffered greatly in my other courses. It would just do me more harm than good to have kept the course.

My counsellor allowed me, and backed me up on dropping the course. I also had more than enough credits that I could have graduated last semester, etc. I am doing amazingly well (pretty much perfect) in all of my other courses; it was just that one course. (I believe my final marks in the other courses will reflect that I'm still doing really well in school). All in all, my school highly approved my decision to drop the course.

I started to worry whether or not my Wellesley acceptance will be rescinded because of this one dropped course. I have a very solid list of reasons why I dropped it, and my guidance counsellor is very supportive. I was wondering if I should get my counsellor to email Wellesley and let them know of my situation/circumstances, and that I'm still doing well in all of my other courses. Is this something I should worry about? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@pin3appl3, what will your transcript say? In my experience, there are different ways that these can be coded on transcripts depending on when the class was dropped and your standing in the class at the time. If the indication is at all unfavorable, then I would certainly discuss it with your guidance counselor. In fact, discussing this with your GC seems like a good idea in any case.

@yotommy My final transcript just won’t have the mark/course anywhere (no indication of a dropped/withdrawn course). I already discussed it with my guidance counsellor and he allowed me to drop the course, and was supportive of it. I’ve emailed the school and let them know what happened.

I’ve already dropped the course, I’m just wondering if I should be worried of a residence from Wellesley.

I don’t have any experience with this, but I think it’s great you have the support of your guidance counselor in case Wellesley has any questions.

It most likely won’t be a problem. I did something very similar and, while I worked myself up over it, there was nothing I could do but let Wellesley know. once i did, I was relieved to find out that they still accepted me.

@yotommy Thanks for your help. I am going to ask my guidance counsellor to send an email backing me up and reporting about my current marks - hopefully that will help.

@orangevanilla Thank you, that’s great to hear. Hopefully I get the same response. :)

Oh I forgot to mention, they did call my counselor! She backed my decision to drop.

@orangevanilla Oh ok! So they called your counsellor after you informed them (I’m guessing via email)?
