Help! Early Decision Q!

ok i recently found out that one of my friends who goes to my highschool might apply ED to emory, which i want to do as well. he is a guy, and i believe he gets somewhat better grades than i do... does this hurt my chances of getting in?? im worried! :(

please answer, somebody???

NO! As proof, 4 (or 3...I dont remember) kids from my high school were accepted EA to Stanford, and there are only 83 kids in my class...They are NOT going to compare your stats to your friends, and take the better student. However, they are going to compare your stats to the rest of applicants. Do not worry, you will not be rejected simply because there is a better student applying from your school...

thanks! i needed the reassurance

actually, if they take like 1284 students, and you are the 1285th best applicant, then yeah itd hurt ur chances, getting bumped out by one.

i can outdo CubsRule

the other year pton accepted 5 kids early from a class of 52.

They do compare you to other kids in you region, and they compare what classes you've taken to what's offered. Like if this kid has taken easier classes and thus has an higher GPA, if anything that might help you.

Also, jeez, how do you already know where you're applying early. I didnt decide untill late october to apply early.

actually, they do compare your stats to the other applicants in your school....HOWEVER, like everyone else said they won't reject you just because your stats are a little bit lower. They look at the hollistically. If both of you showed interest and if your stats are a little bit lower than his, they might take both of you or maybe just you! ;)

Oh yeah...forgot to add the fact that stats arent everything! If your friend's essays and recs suck...and yours are amazing, than you will be accepted over him/her...

thanks guys :)

oh and Pyrrhus, yeah i dont know why i've decided so early...usually i can NEVER make decisions...it took me a year to pick out my bureau....
