Hi, I am an incoming freshman for the NYU class of 2011. I received an email last night saying I had not paid my housing deposit, even though I actually did indeed pay it. I even received a separate email 2 days before that one giving me a receipt for my payment as well as a confirmation number. Unfortunately I cannot talk to anyone at NYU because I get out of school after the office closes (time difference in California), and up until now I naturally thought they had received the deposit because they sent me a receipt. Is there anything I can do right now? I left a message, but by the time anyone gets it it'll be too late- this is really really really really ****ing me off and I'd really hate to lose my reserved housing because of something stupid like this. Thanks!

e-mail them and they should get back to you. also take the time during school to attempt a call. and if i'm not mistaken it's a 3 hr difference so assuming their offices open at 9a Eastern time, you should wake up at 6a Pacific time and try to call them. Don't freak out. Just contact the people in office and you should be able to get this cleared up. trust me i've been in situations like this for housing, financial aid, etc and it's really easy to freak out and get nervous when the school screws things up, but then you realize that once you contact the school it's resolved without any consequences. As for who to call, I don't know who that would be. I guess maybe the Office of Residential Life or maybe the Financial Aid department or the Bursar Office? good luck.

You won't lose your housing if you take action. E-mail them as BP-TheGuy suggested. If you have to, send them to receipt for your payment via regular mail to prove that the deposit was sent. It will be okay. Surely you get a lunch break at school and there is a teacher who will let you make the call if necessary.

Call before school if you have the time. They should be open by then.
