Ok I always knew my writing was bad but I was shocked to find out I did worse on the essay compared to 5 years ago in 7th grade.

My reading and math scores have gone up 170 points and 220 points respectively since then, and my total writing score has only gone up 20 points. Essay was a 9 then and I got a 7 this time.

Any idea on what happened? I couldnt have gotten worse at writing essays... even staying the same would be ridiculous after all the essays I've written since then.
I haven't particularly practice math/reading more than writing... I put equal effort into all of them.

How can I fix this? More and more practice? To be honest I didn't put in as much practice as I should and crammed but still, I'm shocked I got worse.
:(
Confused and worried about my last SAT... I need to raise my Writing if I want to have a better chance at my colleges!

I’ve come to the conclusion that doing well on the day of the test depends on your level confidence. Hey, just go through the test like it’s a fun challenge. Trust me, it makes a difference. Let it flow. Write the essay out of heart, check for grammatical errors in the final two minutes, provide relevant and hopefully convincing examples, state your thesis in the final paragraph, use complex sentences and last but not least, ask yourself the following question “What do I want to convey to the reader through this essay?”. When you’ve come up with the answer, work towards conveying that idea.

Oh, and we can never rule out the luck factor. Sometimes it’s an interesting topic that you know a lot about. And other times it’s something you’ve never come across.

Yeah maybe it was the essay topic… it was about reality television and whether you thought it was beneficial or detrimental… I don’t watch TV nor any reality television for that matter so I wouldn’t know.
I had confidence coming in but I scored 100 points lower than expected :(
