I was just wondering (as a result of picking my last class for next quarter)

Are there any classes on campus that fulfill more than one GE category?

http://www.registrar.ucla.edu/GE/

Courses marked with asterisks can satisfy GE requirements for one more than one category but don't satisfy more than one category at a time.

heres another important question

i took my GE cluster thinking it'd take care of that whole seminar/writing II bs, but now i hear we have to take TWO writing II classes? so in addition to my cluster, i have to take another random GE that is writing II? every month or so i think i know it all and there's another hidden requirement...

What exactly is "Seminar Credit" and the "Writing II" Requirement?

A quick refresher course:

Every L&S student needs Writing I and Writing II, you all know that. But,
you need to know that in addition to this Writing II course you need a
second course that also is either a Writing II (W) -OR- a GE approved lower
division seminar (S).

The total number of GE courses required in the foundational areas is still
10, but you must make sure that one of these GE classes has Writing II or
seminar credit. This is in addition to the class used to satisfy the
College Writing II requirement. If you don't do this second Writing
II/Seminar overlap, you simply risk taking an extra class to meet this final
GE requirement (11 versus 10 GE courses) If you did a GE cluster, you can
ignore all of this, you're good to go.

what fuzzy language. are you sure you're right?? can anyone else chime in? (not that i dont trust you but i keep hearing differnet things)

there are two ways to satisfy the writing II requirement. the first, is to take two writing II courses. the second is to take one writing II course and one seminar course.

those who are in GE clusters get credit for a writing II course and and seminar course in addition to whichever GEs the cluster is for. so as long as you finish out the cluster you are currently taking, you will satisfy the writing II requirement.

taking a GE class will not ever satisfy two GE requirements. It can, however, satisfy a GE requirement and a writing II requirement ("W" classes). It can also satisfy a GE requirement and a major requirement. But never can it satisfy two GE requirements.

so ckings i take it ekn is correct

yay :D haha

(and i agree, it was pretty fuzzy =/)
