High school junior here. Starting to get in to seriously thinking about what colleges I would like to apply to and attend in two years. I have some ideas, but I’m not entirely sure, so I was hoping I could get some ideas thrown at me here. I know I should pick whatever fits me and whatever I’m interested in, but there are so many options that I’m not sure where to start and I think I might need some ideas thrown out to spark my interest.
So, if you’re still reading, I’m pretty interested in math and think I want to do something in the business world. I’m an A student with a 2100 SAT, so I’m definitely no genius but I think my grades are good enough to have a fairly wide selection. I’d like to go somewhere in California, Colorado, or the Northeast. Any ideas for a school that might fit well?
Sorry if this is a ridiculous request but I’m just struggling to figure out where I want to go and what I want to do so if anyone could help that would be great. Thanks!
First find out what your parents can afford? Have them calculate their EFC (Estimated Family Contribution). Then select a few schools that you might be interested in California or Colorado. Run the Net Price Calculators to see what your costs may be. If you are in-state, your costs will be much lower than as an OOS student for many schools. You could also see if your stats at the moment will make you eligible for any merit aid.
Next, I would start looking into visiting different types of schools: Large State University and a Small Liberal Arts College for example to give you an idea what you might prefer.
You could also plug in your stats into the SuperMatch feature on this website and see which schools show up on your list and start narrowing down some possibilities.
Until you have your final grades at end of Junior year and a dollar amount you can spend, it will be difficult to make recommendations
Do you want to major in business, or are you interested in studying more broadly before pursuing a career in business? Would mathematics be a possible major? When did you take your SAT exam? Did you score a 2100 even? Assuming a preference for general academic quality is a given, have you thought about what qualities might make you favor or rule out schools (other than the preferences you expressed regarding geographic region)?
You still have plenty of time to figure it all out, but it seems like you don’t yet have a clear picture of what you’re looking for in a school. This makes it rather difficult to give recommendations beyond what schools have strong programs for such and such major and the like.
Is there a reason you chose those geographic regions? Don’t be too quick to dismiss the Midwest
