I'm looking to transfer from Georgia State University for fall 2014 to major in mechanical engineering. Any detailed suggestions and thoughts are appreciated. :)

In addition to that, it would be nice to know of other options I could have as far as good but reasonably affordable schools to go to. After a big screw up of my first year second semester, my gpa is slowly rising (before: 2.6, now: 2.9). im hoping that with trying my hardest, i could at the least have a 3.1 by the end of spring semester. i just need help with finding good schools that will accept me with my low gpa. (again hoping that the school is good). ga tech is out for me since the minimum requirement is 3.3

Look into the smaller [Association of Independent Technological Universities: AITU](http://theaitu.org) schools. Some of them will give reasonable financial aid to transfer students.

Well I would’ve applied to tech but I don’t have the gpa that meets the minimum

2.75 college GPA in preparatory course work for your major may get you into South Dakota School of Mines and Technology as a transfer applicant.

Cost of attendance is not that high:

You are in a tough spot. You want an affordable university that will allow a sub-3.0 transfer into an engineering field? Your best bet is to stay within the Georgia public system…

How about University of Georgia?

What do you define as reasonably affordable? In state price of GSU without HOPE? Can you afford more?

Do you qualify for HOPE?

A 2.9 GPA won’t get you into the better schools that might get aid.

Transfers don’t usually get much aid, so how much will your parents pay each year?

If you need aid, then transferring may not work. Do NOT cut ties with your current school until you’ve seen your aid pkg from a new school.
