Help Finding Monologues??

Hi- So I know the deal that people usually say to find monologues "Research your favorite playwrights.. yadda yadda yadda" I know my favorite playwrights- and they don't write specifically for characters my age. I am a 17 year old male, and I am auditioning for both Interlochen Arts Academy and North Carolina School of the Arts this month. I need one comedic and one dramatic monologue, both contemporary, about a minute long, from published plays, no musicals. I need specifics! I work at a library, so access to the actual play is not an issue, but I have researched and researched and cannot find many edgy, interesting, dramatic monologues and LOL funny monologues for a 17 year old guy! I have a monologue coach set up- so now all I need are the monologues! Trying to avoid Brighton Beach Memoirs (probably Neil Simon in general). I know about Dog Sees God, but I don't love the opening monologue and feel it is overused. No Christopher Durang, either. Any help would be appreciated! I would like an intense, somewhat dark monologue and another that is absolutely hilarious.

Call The Drama Bookshop this week while you’re on break-(212) 944-0595. I called on a weekday morning and got a very nice gentleman who gave 4 monologue options after I told him my daughter’s type of humor. She was hitting a brick wall like you feel you are, but she said every one of his suggestions were good. Good luck.

For a dramatic monologue, perhaps too old (the play and the character), you may like “The Story of Jerry and The Dog” from Eward Albee’s “The Zoo Story”: https://scholarblogs.emory.edu/thea100fullerton/files/2014/04/The-Zoo-Story-SCRIPT.pdf</a></p>

I love The Zoo Story. That’s a great choice. For a newer contemporary monologue maybe The War on Safety by Max Posner: https://www.playscripts.com/play/1984</a>. I saw a scene from this play at a thespian conference once and it was very well done and there is a college-aged young man with some good depth.

My D found a number of good things in the work of Rajiv Joseph

For comedy, you could do worse than something from Jules Feiffer. (Knock Knock?) I have no specific monologue in mind here, but if you have time to browse during your lunch hour…

Your monologue coach should be able to offer you some suggestions. Hit that person up!

Thanks all  I went to the drama book shop in NYC today, and the guy working there was more than happy to help. Gave me brand new plays published within the past year.
