Hi everyone,
I need some help finding safety schools to apply to...

I'm a current junior (female) from New England at a top boarding school with an A- average
SAT : Math 710, Reading 800, Writing 800

And having trouble finding less selective schools that fit my criteria:
-Well respected
-Urban/In a city
-Not too small (about 4000 min?)
-Not in a super-cold climate =P

Any ideas? I can give more info if you need, but any help is really really appreciated!

As long as your ECs are good, with your stats I'd say Vanderbilt is a fairly safe bet, Emory, Tulane definitely, Rhodes... again, if your EC's are good I'll say Rice (though this is not a safety for anyone).

The SATs are fabulous but more information about you as an applicant would be helpful!

Also, George Washington University in DC.

Wow, you're criteria make things tough for you.

Johns Hopkins, U of Virginia, Duke

I don't know what your intended major is, but hopefully this helps.

Thanks so much!
My ECs are pretty good i think- I'm head of the French Club, board member (head next year) of the GSA, and will hopefully be debate captain next year (debate has been HUGE for me... wish me luck! ;) ) and have been involved in theatre and some other things along the way.

Woah...Duke is definitely NOT a safety school for anyone. Neither is Johns Hopkins.

(I don't know about U of Virginia)

GeorgiaCeltsfan- I know!!! It's strange how few schools there are that fit this.

I intend to major in some form of International Studies, maybe with a business minor or something.

Thank you! :)

Hippo- yeah, you're right about Duke (I visited and didn't like it that much anyway) and my counselor puts JHU in my 'match' category. But hey, any school suggestions are helpful :)

if your average is an A-, then i don't see how jhu is a match, as applicants with higher grades are rejected in droves

Thats what I was trying to do. In no way is that a safety, but it is a very reputable univeristy. And if she has good EC's to match the SAT, she's in.

ecco- you're definitely right, but my school has an extremely good reputation and relationship with colleges, and there is massive grade deflation, so who knows
