In high school I had a 3.71 GPA, 30 ACT score, and mediocre ec’s (soccer captain and that’s pretty much it). If I maintain my 4.0 throughout this semester (I’m a current freshman at a State U). My ec’s now are a little better (writers room for the campus filmmaking club, volunteer at the boys and girls club, doing the ESPN broadcasts for my school’s sports teams, and I’ll be joining the English majors honors society at the end of the semester). I really like Wesleyan and Brown, but have my doubts about getting accepted. Do you guys know of any other schools that might be a good fit?
I wouldn’t think that Brown (7% transfer acceptance rate) represents a realistic option for most potential transfer applicants. As a somewhat more accessible alternative, look into Connecticut College.
It would help to know more about what you’re seeking to advise colleges for you. What are you hoping to accomplish at your target school?
Since I rounded in the wrong direction above, I should note the Brown’s transfer acceptance rate was recently 7.7%.
Many colleges are more opaque about transfer admission, so assessing reach/match/likely/safety may be more difficult.
My current school has a rather rigid curriculum, whereas I’m looking for something more open so that I can explore all my interests throughout undergrad. I’m more than open to schools that are easier to get into but set up similar to Brown. I’d also like a smaller campus.
In addition to Brown, colleges with notably flexible curricula include, to varying degrees, Amherst, Hamilton, Smith and Grinnell. From this group, however, Amherst would be equivalent to Brown with respect to competitiveness of transfer admission. The University of Rochester’s distribution requirements may be less restrictive than those of many other universities.
