Help for college selection

Oh okay but In recent years I believe Purdue is ahead especially in STEM…is there any chance in Georgia tech with 1900?

How is Texas A&M FOR CS as compared to other program on my list?

the Gourman Report is the only u/g ranking of CS that I’m aware of, and it is from 2007. However, from the small group sample here, no one is recommending a&m ahead of the others being mentioned. Perhaps that is significant. I’m not being coy; I just don’t know. I suspect, as I said, that you can get a good CS education there but you’re asking us to compare it to other schools on a list. It doesn’t spring to mind as being equivalent to any of these.

If Purdue has a better reputation in your country then that’s to take into account for when you return. As far as I know, Penn State has a better general reputation nationally though (and a better alumni network and recruiting fair).
GeorgiaTech with a 1900 is a super reach but you can always try once you’re done with your other applications (secure the others first, treat that one as a “dream project” and forget about it afterwards. It’ll be a good surprise if you get in but this way, as odds are you won’t, you won’t be disapointed if you always treated it as a “just to see”.)

Okay thanks Yaa actually I have 30 on ACT which is 2000 I guess on SAT

Ya and I guess I won’t be applying to gatech

Yes Purdue has a better reputation from the past few years especially in STEM subjects I am not too sure about others

I will be most probably applying to Penn state

How is NCSU a for CS/cse as compared to others on my list?

NCSU is roughly like Purdue.

Oh is it how is it when compared to ASU?

ASU is ranked higher than NCSU for cs

Better than ASU, but ASU Barrett (the Honors College) is better than NCSU Honors.
So it’s be ASU Barrett, NCSU Honors, NCSU, ASU.

Hmm I’d ont agree with you on that according to research I have done …is news and education has ranked ASU no 65 according to latest global rankings which is top 30 usa ncsu isn’t ranked in top 100 shangai rankings rank asu as 33 worldwide .

Just my 2 cents

Global rankings aren’t for undergraduates - they focus on research output, which means they could actually be opposite what you’re looking for, since the more time professors devote to research, the less time they have for undergrads. In addition, if you look at these rankings, you’ll notice the conspicuous absence of colleges such as Dartmouth, HarveyMudd, or Amherst, which are considered among the most selective in the country.
ASU, outside of Barrett, is MUCH less selective for undergraduates than NCSU. NCSU is the 2nd most selective public university in North Carolina, with a very very strong engineering program and a good business school. In comparison, ASU exists to serve the state’s entire student population, meaning that many students go there who are underprepared or not academically-focused. That’s okay, because that’s what the university is for, and in strong programs the unprepared students will wash out, but the first two years will be very different. Barrett was created specifically for very strong students, so that they can take classes at their level. In addition, ASU has a BIG reputation as a party school (it was said, jokingly, that they’re no longer ranked for their parties because the “party school” rankings are for amateurs only.) At the graduate level, ASU has many TOP programs, which explains its global ranking, and for driven juniors and seniors there are great classes to take, but the overal atmosphere (outside of Barrett) is different than at NCSU.

Hmm but they do give an idea and even if you consider specific undergrad rankings ASU is ahead …secondly as I am in engineeiring along with few other depts like WO Carey so the no of slackers will be less…another catchy is its #2 up andd coming UNIVS according to USN so it’s one of the innovative colleges.

I know NCSU is good but it is too a public university so don’t understand the point you made

What proof you have about NCSU being better than ASU?

Want to know

@MYOS1634‌ really appreciate your help don’t take it I a wrong way

Not taking it in any way… :)

NCSU: very difficult admissions vs. ASU: moderately difficult.
Average weighted GPA: 4.3 at NCSU, 3.5 at ASU.
Average SAT: 609CR, 634M at NCSU, 562CR 583M at ASU.
Average ACT: 29 NCSU, 25 ASU
First Year students returning: 93% at NCSU, 84% at ASU

You can find other information in the CommonDataSet if you’re interested.

Hey I got admit in Purdue CS which is like one of the top programs in the world?
What do you think @MYOS1634‌

Should I wait for ASU barrett? Can it compare to Purdue Which is a STEM powerhouse
