I am an incoming freshmen who is doing UCSB's FSSP.

Will taking Econ 3A and PSTAT 5E be an okay strategy?

That will amount to 9 credits. I want to hit the road running but at the same time do not know what to expect. I know the pre-major classes weed people out but I am determined to study my ass off to get a high pre-major GPA.

Should I take these courses? Advice from anyone currently enrolled/are knowledgable in this area is greatly appreciated!

PSTAT 5E shouldn’t be a problem, however the Econ 3A class I really do not recommend you taking unless you really, and I mean really plan on studying a lot over the summer. Obviously you know that it could hurt your chance of getting in the major if you do poorly in the class. Econ 1 and 2 are both recommended before taking 3A, although not required. As long as you know some basic stuff (maybe you took econ in high school) and you plan on studying, I think you will do fine. Good luck!

Yeah I’m in I.B. Econ SL at the moment and doing fairly well.

Okay so I should postpone taking econ 3A for now? Are there equivalents to Econ 1 and 2 that I can take in the summer that will satisfy the pre-major requisites?
