I'm enrolled in Econ 2 and Econ 3a going for the economics and accounting major, but the pre-reqs for econ 3a is that Econ 1 and 2 are both recommended. I did Econ1 last qrt, but I'm a bit unsure if I'm ready to take econ 3a without finishing econ2. I need at least a B seeing as how the pre major gpa is 2.85 requirement. Any thoughts if I should drop 3a? I can just finish 2 and do 3a in the summer, which was my first option but I just got it during this 3rd pass.

3a is financial accounting correct? and if i remember correctly econ 2 is Macro econ. You won’t use anything from Econ 2 in financial accounting.

It all depends on who is teaching Econ 2 and 3a. If you get one of the hard teachers in both classes, I would recommend you to finish them one at a time to make sure you meet the 2.85 minimum requirement. If you end up getting Sanders and Watson in the same quarter you will go through hell and if you don’t keep up you will mess up your GPA. So if you are on the border line 2.85, I would recommend taking one at a time. If you are maintaining a 3.5 or above, you can think about taking both.

I would do what ever it takes to meet that minimum if I were you. If you hurry up and not meet the GPA requirement you’ll kick yourself later.

I think you can probably handle 3A and 2, though I guess what I’m really telling you is that I think I could have done both at the same time, and I’m not a genius. It looks like it’s Anderson and Rupert, respectively. I’ve heard that Anderson is a pretty good teacher, though I don’t know anything about Rupert.

Then again, I heard the curves for intro accounting classes are getting pretty unfavorable.

Something to consider is that if you’re already meeting the GPA requirement for the pre-major, you can just take one of the classes at a community college over the summer. It won’t change your UC GPA, but it will get requirements out of the way (check assist.org for the articulation agreements). I took ECON 2 over the summer with Foothill CC because I didn’t want to wait until Winter quarter to take it and finish up the pre-major. It cost me about $150 all together, and I even got 5 units for the course.

Hey thanks for advice guys! I think I’ll gamble and take them both at the same time and yeah the economics department curves are all pretty lame ><
