Hey all! I have this speech due in TWO days and I keep typing stuff and erasing it and retyping and deleting... It's for graduation and any suggestions for brainstorming/actual speech content would be appreciated. Serious, funny, cynical....ANYTHING. Everything I've written so far is either ridiculously corny, cliche, and cheesy or a denunciation of our school's administration and teachers.

umm do u wanna write a speech and then give it to me? =P

should i audition for a grad speech hmmmmmm.......::thinking::

iv got the ideas for mine...mostly about leaving school and what we gotta do in the future...+ 1 anecdote.

the problem for me is that we have four valedictorians, which means four speeches and i go last since my name is at the end of the alphabet. i don't want to repeat the future/leaving school that three other people will have already said.

haha yea. we dont have valeds and they dont have speeches =P 4?! thats so crazy! haha. but yea we audition and its a painful process.....should i do it! ahh! just be original and people love anecdotes

use ts elliots poem the life of J alfred prufrock, I plan on using it in my speech and telling people not to measure out their life in spoonfuls but rather, in bucketfuls!

use dr. seuss's OH THE PLACES YOULL GO
jajaj i loves that book
or the 1999 Graduation Song or play pink floyds the wall

or just say: viva mejico cabrones!!!

haha i was just in the guidance counselor's office talking with the other three vals. I dont think any of them have finished theirs either lol

Make it as funny and/or cynical as possible. Speeches are usually boring, so make it entertaining :D

There are 2 of us making a speech. The guy before me is doing the funny/cynical one. Mine will be fairly serious. We've got a little while yet, but we're brainstorming together and he asks my opinion about stuff and I ask his.

why is your speech due so early? are you graduating soon?

"viva mejico cabrones!!!"

LOL!! i vote for this

live .... .....? whats it mean?

I have until June to write my speech! :)

shrek, what exactly do you have to do get a speech at graduation?

We have 8 valedictorians, so i'm in the same boat and then some, not only do i have to worry about not repeating what's "always" said, but more specifically not what the other 7 say. ugh. i'm so lost on it. the more i think about what i want to say (b/c speeches are due after spring break) the more i come up with nothing, or stuff decrying the school (always comes effortlessly ;) ) , which will go over like a fart in a windstorm since the administration has to approve the speech.

How do you guys have 8 valedictorians? Don't you just pick the person with the highest gpa? Our school's gpa system goes up to 4 decimal places (.0000), though it wasn't necessary since I did beat out the sal by .2! (Okay, that was bragging, but it's not such a great feat in my school :))

haha, yeah ridiculous isnt it? our school for some reason goes by unweighted gpa which apparently prior to our graduating class never posed much a problem as it stll only resulted in one or on the rare occassion 2 valedictorians

(and congrats on the .2, def comes with braggin rights)

Hah hah, our school has something like a billion valedvictorians. Or maybe it's about 16, I'm not sure. Anyway, it's a result of unweighted GPA. Marcus has complained about it many a times in these forums, though...

It's getting too late in the year to sabotage my classmates, too... What a shame.

we've got one valedictorian and 3 salutatorians, and we somehow need to figure out if we're all giving speeches! people keep mentioning tie-breakers, which would just be petty and stupid (ex. total number of A's received), but i hope they just let us all speak.

suburbian....

first we have our first screenings which is we write an essay and a panel of teachers read it and select the best 20 essays. then basically you have an interview with the panel to see ur impromptu speaking skills and that narrows to about 12ish and then lastly u present ur essay in front of the panel and that leaves 4 speakers.

they slightly altered it this year but its this similar process each year. no one gets speeches besides the 4 that audition and win them

my school has three valedictorians and 2 salutatorians...again the result of unweighted gpa's...under our old system the two salutatorians would have been vals despite the fact they got a single B to the vals UW 4.0...we all basically took the same classes as IB Diploma candidates (except I took Marching Band [obviously not honors] and another val took Basketball to stay on the Varsity team [again not honors])...it didn't seem to make much sense to punish people who had taken anywhere from 7-8 classes when others had only taken 6...I dunno, things got really complicated!

in addition to these 5 speeches there is the ASB prez and Senior Class Prez...let's just say graduation is gonna be a little longer than usual!
