Help! How to REstudy for the ACT test...

I took the March SAT and I scored way lower than expected. 600 critical reading, 550 math, 640 writing. I'm in shock because I prepped and everything and on practice tests I was getting high 600s in every section. AND I took all of my practice tests under real test conditions.
Because of these grades I want to take the ACT again instead (I just took it April 4th). I don't find out my act scores until later this week, but on practice tests I took I got around a 28. I was wondering, since the prep books I've been using aren't helping me as much as I'd like, what methods you guys recommend to raise my score to a 31....
For the April 4th ACT exam I used the Princeton Review Cracking the ACT. I mean it offers great review, but I feel like it doesn't give enough solid strategies. I have a lot of discipline and great study habits, I just need some different resources to reach my goal i believe.

I heard the kaplan books are pretty good?

Also do you guys recommend the prep book the ACT company gives out?

Plus, do you guys have any other unique prep methods/materials besides prep books, tutoring, and group classes (ex. online programs, special books, speed reading practice)?

Should I use more than one prep method/book at a time?

BASICALLY, TELL ME WHAT HELPED YOU DO SUCCESSFULLY ON THE ACT.

I just took the April ACT too, and I recommend the kaplan books. They are amazing to me, and really helped me with the best strategies to use. I was able to get a review of the basic math/science concepts, and the practice tests seemed to match the difficulty of the April ACT. I personally don’t recommend using more than one book at a time, but I know of people who do. Hope this helps. :)

I personally didn’t like the Kaplan ACT book, but the Real ACT book by ACT helped me a lot.

the Real ACT book is amazing

has anyone used more than one book at one time? if so how much did it help, and which two books…?

bump 10char

I used the Real ACT red book, Kaplan Spotlight ACT, and Kaplan ACT English and Reading Workbook.

Real ACT book combined with Barron’s got me a 33 on my first test. You mostly have to realize your own strategies by taking many tests and finding out what works for YOU.

I’m really angry with my test scores

I took the test 3 tims already and got the following scores:

27,27,28

my score went up by 1,despite that I studied my ass off,and my friend, who drinks and smokes almost every single day, just did one practice essay the night before the test,

and he ended up with a 35 composite…

I personally do NOT like the ACT

My SAT score was higher than my score equivalent to a 28 on the ACT (CR 590 Math 790 Writing 700)…

any strategies?

Maybe the ACT just isn’t your test. Even if your friend drank and smoked everyday, he probably just knew the material without the studying. I think by the fact that you keep getting 27s and 28s means that that is the score group you belong in.

people tell me that barron’s is too difficult…idk

Okay does this sound good? I think I’ll buy the Real ACT book, Barrons, Flashcards, Kaplan Math & Science book, and the Kaplan Premier ACT prep…

Cubsrocksox,

Sorry to deviate from the subject, but did you apply and get an interview for TASS?

what is TASS?

Barron’s is more difficult, they’re right. But I felt it helped me, because the real test seemed so much easier after going through Barron’s. That’s how some people feel and others feel that it’s pointless to use it at all cause of its difficulty. That depends on the person.

I think with the arsenal you’ve said you’d buy though, if you use it all to the best of your ability, you should be just fine for the next test you take. Good luck.

thank you, blindtrombonist. =)
