You tried to send your application by the deadline, but the college’s site crashed – what can you do? The Dean offers some advice. https://www.collegeconfidential.com/articles/help-i-missed-an-application-deadline-due-to-a-tech-problem/
As opposed to every other year when it happens?
This should be the key takeaway.
While it is good to share “recovery” strategies, I would emphasize on the student’s managing the application process. The tone of the question was I was within the last minute so it was everyone else’s faults. This is not accountability, which is a very important trait to have in college. I cautioned my children many times (not always successful) that if you send the application in the last day, not even last minute, internet/site could be down, snow storm or hurricane could happen, electricity could get cut off, you could get sick, etc. etc. And the answer is, it is your responsibility to manage and not to expect everyone else will bend over backward to entertain your excuse, reasonable or not. I would even expect major sites such as Coalition or Common App has a high risk to be down in the last hour of the key dates.
Similar answer to the question that GC does not submit transcript on time or Teacher does not submit LC on time. Keep track, keep checking, have a back up teacher, escalate if necessary. Bottom line, be accountable.
My daughter got this advice from her counselor: send your applications at least three days before the deadline.
She sent EA’s a week before, and by TG she had all RD apps done. The best advice ever.
If you’re applying to the UC’s, do it before Thanksgiving. You’ll enjoy the holidays a lot more, and won’t have to worry about the inevitable crash that happens one or two days before the deadline.
My D and I agreed that she would submit a week early before every deadline. And what’s crazy, you really have to plan way ahead for the college board to send SAT scores. Even 3 Days prior is considered a rush order…
@Carino: The best advice ever, perhaps, but what’s even better is that your daughter took it to heart and followed that advice!
