Call me a procrastinator, but I felt like waiting until 11:30pm EST or so to submit my Penn and Stanford applications today. I was done with my applications but I just felt more comfortable submitting later rather than sooner. Unfortunately, the internet at my house crashed. In a panic, I tried to fix it. Eventually, I drove over to a friend's house to submit it there. However, I was not quite quick enough - 3 minutes too slow.

I'm afraid that, even if they consider my application, my admissions chances will go down significantly as a result of submitting it "a day late". Will they still consider my application? If so, will they weigh it as if I submitted it before the deadline? If not, given that I really want to get into Penn and/or Stanford, what should I do?

I wonder how many boards will I have to post this on…

Relax. Most schools have a grace period after the deadline (ranging from a couple minutes to a couple of hours, depends on the school). I submitted my app to Stanford 3 minutes late (Stanford is notorious for their strict deadlines), I emailed the admissions office a couple minutes later and they said it was fine. I mean, a school is really not going to toss your app out (or care that much really) because it was a couple minutes late. Relaxxxxxxxxxx.

Is emailing them key to make sure they don’t throw out my application?

The address I sent an email to was admission@stanford.edu, is that the one you used?

Also, I got an auto-response from Upenn saying that they will not check their email until the 4th since they are on a holiday break. What should I do? Should I call them instead? (since, perhaps by the time its the 4th they may have gotten other emails and lose my email?)

Yes, I used that email but my app deadline was Dec 1 since I sent in an art supplement. Seriously. Stanford/Penn really isn’t going to toss your app because it was a couple minutes late. You will be fine. Please breathe.

Guys, if you’re worthy of admission they aren’t going to reject you on the basis that you were 1 minute late. They aren’t out to get you - they’re trying to find the best class of 2014!
