Help in running for a student representative position

I’m running to be a student representative for a local school board. It’s an election with students voting. I’ll have to give some speeches and answer questions. (Many competitors too) I’m extremely dedicated and would love the position, but do not know how to articulate it to others, so they can see the passion.

Any tips and suggestions? (Very nervous here)

Make a script of your planned speeches and potential questions and practice doing the speech and answering the questions in front of a mirror or in front of your family or friends. Make sure your script has a lot of passion and well-developed reasons/bullet points that you can explain to your fellow students. Good luck

Would you love the “position” or is there something you want to accomplish?
Why do you want to do this? to have a leadership position on your resume? Or to take ideas from your classmates and work with board to implement them? Do you have ideas on how to get student input?

Typically people seek elective office for one of two reasons:

  1. To be somebody

  2. To do something

If #2, then your campaign consists of simplifying your message/goals & distributing literature & giving speeches.

If #1, then you need to appear publicly exhibit passion & charisma why promising everything to everybody.

@bopper @Publisher Thanks for the help! When I mean that I love the “position”, it means that the role will give me the opportunities to implement some of the ideas I have for improving student education and allow me to be able to impact the community through these solutions.

You don’t “tell” passion, you “show” it. So write a speech about some of the ideas you have for improving education, while indicating you cannot solely implement these but want to bring these ideas to the board for consideration.
Practice your speech in front of a mirror, out loud, and then in front of your parents.
