Hi, i would like your personal opinion on FIU since its on the top of my college list because it offers my majors. Still, i fear it might not be a good school, people sometimes dont even list it as a top university in florida. What do you think?!!!! ( sorry i want to attend a good school)

It might help if you distinguish between what will be a good school for you – and what other people think is a good school, keeping in mind that “good” can have a range of different meanings.

In terms of national academic reputations, some of the schools in Florida with the best reputations are UF, FSU, U of Miami but there are others, including UCF and FIU. Keep in mind that FIU is a relatively young university that has made great strides in the last 20 years. It used to be ranked very highly as a regional university because it did not have a lot of PhD programs, but it is now considered a “national” university with PhD programs. I think it’s respected in Florida, but it doesn’t have the same national profile as U of Miami.

But in terms of what is good for you, you should consider – what you want to study, size of the university, location, atmosphere, cost, etc. And remember that the best university for you is one where you will be comfortable enough to do your best work and be challenged by the classes and professors.

Thank you :)

As a current student FIU is THE ONLY public University in South Florida and is continuously expanding. Like Copterguy said, Over the Last 20 years FIU has been ahead of the Pack in research and expansion. FIU is a wonderful school and If you ever have the pleasure to visit the Campus, you will fall in love with it… BTW, UM hasn’t one a bowl game in 5 years so FIU is the only Champ in South Fla. :)
