I'm interested in IB, and I'm trying to make my final college decision. Right now I've got full tuition paid for at 3 schools: Virginia Military Institute, USF, and Purdue. I know none of these are target schools or very heavily recruited by IBs, but it's the hand I've been dealt.

That being said, I know VMI has a very strong alum base along with a Cadet Investment Club that is given $200K per year to invest and manage. USF's business school is not very high ranked, but it's in Tampa and would be free for me to attend. Purdue has Krannert School of Management which I hear isn't too bad, but I haven't seen much of it on these forums.

Which of these schools would be best for prospective IB? Thanks!

Check out Indiana University’s Investment Banking Worshop. Annually sends around 30 kids each year to investment banks in New York/Chicago. They also have a growing seminar, which does the same yet focuses on a senior internship as opposed to a junior -> senior full time route. The program is competitive and will only get more so as the years go by and it gains more publicity. Essentially that program is to thank for the whole presence of IU on Wall Street.

I’m not familiar with the VMI program but I’m assuming that that offers a pretty close network which would obviously work if you could get into that, check the alumni from that on linkedin or something and see if they actually end up in investment banking and not some asset management or something. Also check the requirements of the program and the difficulty to get in.

Purdue might have a similar program to IU but I’m not positive, do some research into that. Either way, Krannert is nothing on Kelley, if you’re comparing schools the only time Purdue would win over is in engineering.

Something else, which you’ve obviously considered, is the financial aspect. Compare the price of Purdue and IU, it probably shouldn’t be too different, so that could ease up your decision if it’s between those two. And finally, assuming you aren’t a direct admit to Kelley, it’s easy enough to get into your freshman year. Just get all above B’s, obviously requires some effort your first year, but if you want to crack into IB that’ll be a necessity already.
