Help me choose a college!!

It's so late and I have to choose between two universities as a transfer student. I won't give the names but will adequately describe my situation. Please tell me where I should go based on what I say!!! And asap please!

College A

This college is very prestigious, top 25 university. It has a beautiful campus, is about an hour away from home and lots of school spirit and great sports. It also has a huge and amazing alumni network. I also have a lots of friends here. Lots of things to do on campus and overall I think I will be happy.

However, I was not accepted to my first choice major here but my second. The second choice major is not exactly what I wanted to study, but its still considered an excellent school within the university although I personally don't have a lot of interest in the curriculum; maybe I'll feel as if I'm wasting my time?? There are also not many clubs and organizations strictly related to what I want to do, although I think the alumni network makes up for it. Additionally, the area outside campus is not very safe and I have to live with a couple roommates, which is not ideal. Also I may have to take an extra class or summer class to graduate on time (more money!!)

College B

This college is less prestigious although still pretty good. It is almost a top 50 university. It on the other side of the country, almost a 6 hour flight. My major here is exactly what I want to study and I love the curriculum. For my major they are considered excellent. They have organizations and clubs that give hands on experience and are great resources. It is an urban campus and has both pluses and minuses to it but I think I can adjust in time, although I'll miss the picturesque campus of College A. Overall, great faculty, internship and study abroad opportunities, and many things to do in the city. I also have a single room which is nice.

However, it is very far from home and it won't be possible to come home for Thanksgiving and maybe even spring break. It gets extremely cold, which is something I'm not used to at all. Additionally, the alumni network is not as established and well regarded as College A's, although I think their internship program and other resources makes up for that. Also, there is less school spirit and I don't have many friends here. The building is fairly older.

Overall the cost is quite similar and I got almost the same amount of money from them. I may have to pay extra tuition for an extra class or two at College A or pay for airfare and cold weather clothing for College B.

I am completely at a loss and have to decide by today or max by tomorrow. PLEASE HELP.

Why don’t you name the colleges and majors? You would get more accurate advice, I expect.

Probably B…tough call though.

@adscram

Yes its a very tough choice for me. Any reasoning behind your choice?

@intparent

I don’t want to name the colleges mainly because it will introduce bias that people have. I will say College A is communication major while college B is a marketing, advertising major.

Can’t do much with a communications degree even from a top 25…looking like B to me.

I wish you hadn’t said the majors :(

I was going to say B, because you get the major you wanted and it has a good reputation in that. Seems like you are interested in the extracurricular activities available and they are super useful. And because I see it as an advantage to go further away, you get to explore a city, get out of your comfort zone–you will meet new people.

I vote for B mostly because I have no sympathy the objections:

“Can’t go home for Thanksgiving.” Trust me, you will have meaningful and fun Thanksgivings without your family.

"Not used to cold. " You buy a parka a hat, mittens and some snow boots. Institutions in cold climates tend to overheat their buildings. You will wear what you normally wear indoors. You will not suffer.

“I don’t have many friends there.” You will make friends. 'nuff said.

Spread your wings. Go with the one that has your major and internship possibilities and assume you will figure out how to make the social, cultural and atmospheric issues work.
