The prompt-The quality of Rice's academic life and the residential college system is heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What perspective do you feel that you will be able to contribute to life at Rice?

1) Well, i'm chinese so i could talk about cultural differences (but i feel like this is cliche? idk..)
2) i teach younger kids piano..i could talk about the perspective of being a teacher as well as a student
3) i could talk about how i've seen my parents live the american dream
4) i could talk about music and how it's impacted me (however, i've kinda already touched on this in my commonapp essay

This essay has to be uniquely you. None of us know you. What gives Rice an understanding of who you are. How are all of these things brought together to make you you? What common theme runs through your life and activities that makes you unique?

It’s not what topic you choose but how you write about that topic. Sure, some of these are cliche topics, but if you write from the heart, you can put a unique spin on them. That’s the key: showing who YOU are and how you are unique.

My son just talked about his experiences as a Mainer, distance runner, Eagle Scout, and scholar. Sounds kind of boring, but he did a good job of bringing them all together. We’ll see what happens!
