rice essay-cultural/unique life experiences.

Does anyone else think that a lot of applicants talk about traveling from one country to the other? (cultural shock, immigrants, etc.)?

how's this for a possible topic: talking about music... (the experiences i've had with it..) and how i may use to to add a different facet to rice?

i just don't want to be cliche you know? ..i am an immigrant myself..so i don't really want to talk about what half the other immigrants have talked about

Seems like anything you have a passion for or can speak honestly and from the heart about would be fair game.

I agree; it sounds like that perspective (immigrant) might be a bit overdone.

An adcom told me that he looked for ANYTHING that was interesting or different. Keep that in mind as you write about your musical experiences.

Good luck!

k, my only problem is that for my commonapp essay, it was about my passion for music too.

however, i intend to take this essay from a totally different angle (not the overcoming an obstacle angle from the commonapp)

do you think this is okay? i’m kind of hesitant
