I'm looking for "Match" Colleges that are similar to Pomona and CMC in academic quality/personality. If there are that you know of, please let me know. If i need to post my stats, I can.

BUMP - Any matches you can think of?

I'm biased, and it's 2am, but your thread looked lonely.

Check out Tufts University. It's on the other side of the country, but I think the academic quality/personality might be very similar.

Be wary that schools like Pomona and Tufts are not really matches for the vast majority of qualified applicants... they're highly competitive and often, admissions is a crapshoot.

Here are my Academic Stats:

GPA - 3.98 unweighted/ 4.33 weighted
- I am an IB Diploma student -
- major: Government
- taking Most rigorous courses available!
- Rank: 5/550

I don't know. This may sound cocky, but I don't really know if I need a match/safety schools because of my situation. I'm a recruited athlete at CMC and Pomona, and I am certain I can/will get in at CMC and the coach at Pomona said I have a very good chance at acceptance. I don't know. Any advice on this? Pomona and CMC are my #1 choice and I will prob. apply ED at Pomona.

I personally think it's good to have a wide variety of match schools. A lot can change between application and decision seasons, even if you don't expect it to.

One of my closest friends applied to only one CA school, and all the rest were on the east coast. She had family on the east coast, had spent lots of time there, loved it, liked the schools...but for one reason or another, come about April, she decided she really wanted to stay in CA. Her choice was made by default, and it was a very good thing that she had chosen to apply to an in-state match, despite a lack of serious interest at the time (and she loves the school).

Personally, if you have the time and the resources to fill out a few extra applications of schools that you think could make you happy (note that this is definitely not the same as just applying for schools arbitrarily), then I'm a very big advocate of giving yourself options.

I think that CMC and Pomona are a match for you. You really don't need to look for lower matches. Still, it never hurts to be safe and you may be offered merit aid. Since you like government, look at some Washington DC area lower matches- American, GW, UMaryland College Park, George Mason.

Even if recuited athlete at CMC and Pomona, you need more matches and safeties. From what I have seen your Academic Stats look like you are in the ballpark to be considered for admissions, but I don't think you would be in the top tier at CMC and Pomona. I saw many posts this year from students who were rejected or waitlisted at Pomona and their stats were off the charts.

If you apply ED to Pomona better make sure you can afford it if you don't qualify for need based aid (remember Pomona only has need based financial aid).

Pomona's newspaper has had several articles on admissions for athletes, here is just one of them:
