Help me find a University...

Hi, i'm a Student from Sri Lanka,
I am hoping to obtain a degree in Mechanical engineering and I need some help on deciding on a University in the US , just did my AL's (Edexcel) haven't got the results yet but expect a minimum of 2A*'s and 3A's (Accounting, Math, Further Math,Physics, and Chemistry) at OL's I did Edexcel GCE's and got 8A's (I did only 8 Subjects).

I going to sit for the SAT's this October and and I figure I can get above 700 in all the units in SAT , plus in SAT II I am hoping to do Math1 , Math2 and Physics and again I confident of getting above 700 for each.

Can't really afford to pay the full tuition so the chance of a financial grant is a necessity,
Plus I'm an Asian so I guess that means I'll be applying as an International Student

And on the EC front haven't got a lot : School Captain, took part in a few basketball tournaments, a couple of essay competitions, did a bit of drama and music when I was young(but guess that doesn't count now). So as you can see , not very impressive...

So what are my chances?? and any Universities that I might have a decent chance of getting into?

Are you going to take a gap year after receiving your Edexcel grades?

yup…at least I think so, I completed my AL’s this year, and I hope to enter Uni next year…

How much can you/your family comfortably pay for uni per year?

Hmmm…lets see 10 thousand dollars or around that would be ideal…I know that no proper uni will have fees on that level but I was hoping with some financial aid to be able to lower it to that amount…

Very few American universities offer significant financial aid to international students, and the competition for those slots is extraordinarily fierce. Not to dissuade you, but you need to know up front that the odds are not great.

If you are determined to study in the U.S., you may find a few smaller public schools which are in your price range. Bemidji State University has a total cost of attendance of about $15,000 per year, for in-state, OOS or international.
