So it is January 1st and college app deadlines are pun us, AND i don’t know what to do. I have asked my english teacher 2 Months ago to write my letter of rec and he still hasn’t done it. Also my guidance consoler has not signed my ED contract for ED II to Wesleyan. So if they do that after I submit my college apps, will the school still receive it w/out penalty to me.
Send your English teacher a polite reminder e-mail right now. Don’t panic about that - recs are usually accepted late at no penalty to the student.
I believe you’re fine w.r.t. the ED contract - if you are concerned, again, e-mail your counselor with those concerns. Relax.
Happy New Year!
Ok thanks Ill just submit the application and then deal with it when I get back with break ( as I have already emailed them both) @Anonymoose3
Are you certain they didn’t send it, or is it just not showing up as received at the schools? Most of them are absolutely swamped at the moment, so systems don’t tend to reflect current status very accurately. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t follow up, as others have suggested, but I wouldn’t assume that the documentation hasn’t been sent or received.
When you asked your English teacher-- did you do it in writing? And include a “brag sheet” of some sort? Or did you stop by when he was busy and ask him verbally?
Without something in writing, it’s certainly possible that he forgot. Most schools have a protocol of some sort, and with good reason.
Remind your guidance counselor and English teacher in polite emails but a lot of the schools (not sure about Wesleyan) have sent my D emails that the only things that need to be received by 11:59 pm tonight is your application. They give schools a grace period of a week or more to get their materials in.
I did ask him verbally but I did bring him a “brag” sheet when I asked him to write it. As well as I reminded him several times over the two months @bjkmom
Also on the common App it says Not Started for either of them so I don’t think they did it.
OK, good, so at least he has something in writing.
He may have it all done. It may simply be at the bottom of the pile on your guidance counselor’s desk. It may simply be a glitch. He may have forgotten to hit “submit” or may not have hit the key hard enough.
The Common App can only describe what they’ve received, not what he’s done.
For what it’s worth, though, I did my letters of recommendation last May and June.
