<p>I am currently trying to make a decision between dropping calc or continuing on with calc</p>
<p>if i drop calc and get straight A's i will have a 3.94
if i dont and get a C in Calc i will have a 3.77</p>
<p>I am a political econ major applying to UC Berkeley 2012</p>
<p>Right now i have 4 classes 2 jobs. </p>
<p>i was wondering how it would look if i had like 4 in winter and possibly 5 in spring?</p>

<p>Drop it and take it during winter or spring because Berkeley will look at your Fall 2011 final session before deciding to admit you or not.</p>
<p>Yeah…this is a close call, but I’d advise dropping it. Make sure you do take/retake it though ASAP! That’s an important prereq for poli econ.</p>
<p>I’m taking it(both 1Aand 1B) for sure before spring 2012, is it better to have a good gpa or have taken the class before fall?</p>
<p>Hmmm before I answer that, let me ask this: Will that calc class you may drop give you a W for it this semester?</p>
<p>Generally, W’s aren’t a big deal…but one in a prereq during your last semester is questionable. If you do have to settle for a W…god, this one is close. I swear these situations get harder and harder every year lol.</p>
<p>Call UCB admissions and ask them. Your question is sooo borderline that I don’t want to risk being wrong with an answer. If I was in your shoes, honestly I would still drop. A (C) grade your last semester looks bad, plus it’s in a prereq. A (W) grade looks fishy but as long as you do take it in the spring, they can’t really hold that against you.</p>
<p>Logically, you should still take the W…but call to be safe.</p>
<p>@ emilsinclair I am working 2 jobs right now too. So it conflicts with my job timing. Is that reason valid? Cuz it is totally true</p>
<p>I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I’m in a similar dilemma as well. I’m a political science major and I too seek to transfer into Cal for Fall 2012. My transferable GPA at this point is a 3.8 but there is the possibility that I may get a B in my stats class this fall. Despite 3 other courses in which I am bound to get an A in, a B in stats would drop me down to a 3.77. Although stats is not a pre-req for Berkeley for polisci majors, it is for UCLA. The withdrawal date is on Friday, the same date my next stats test is on…one that I have doubts about. </p>
<p>I’ve spoken with my counselor and he recommend that I go through with the course because UCLA at least would see the W as an action taken out of panic. Dunno about Cal though.</p>
<p>So should I risk a B this fall and suffer a possible GPA drop to a 3.77? Or should I withdraw and keep my GPA above 3.8? Again, I don’t mean to steal your thread UCtransfer2012. I’m just in a similar boat as you.</p>
<p>Which Calculus class is this? Will you be able to have Calc 2 done by Spring?</p>

<p>@Kreuzberg I can take calc1A in winter and Calc 1b in spring. Does anyone think that explaining that i work 2 jobs concurrently with school is an acceptable reason for a W?</p>
<p>@ uctransfer: Definitely. Explain that in your Personal Statement. It’s a solid reason, for sure. </p>
<p>@ Karma: If you can get a B with a 3.77, you’re good. However, if you get lower, like a C, you will be at greater risk of being rejected. Just be careful and study hard for your next exam.</p>
<p>I would definitely not recommend you not take Calc II if you barely scrape by getting a C in Calc I. Calc II tends to be very computation and relies on your skills of remember the fundamental theorems, theories and ect. If your major doesn’t not require Calc; I repeat do not take it just to make yourself look competative like a buddy of mine did for political econ. He decided to go with poli econ last year and tried to take Calc II and miserably failed having his acceptance rescinded!</p>
<p>Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Calc I and II only a recommendation political econ?</p>

<p>It’s not that i dont understand Calc, technically i should have a B+in the class, its just the teacher i chose to take decided to grade on a curve. which is brutal only 3-4 ppl get an A out of 50.</p>
<p>Yea, it is only recommended but i didnt want to risk not getting in haha. </p>
<p>Plus im taking different teacher next quarter who wont curve. So i should be doing better in that class</p>
<p>@uctransfer2012 Poli Econ - Drop Calc, but I hope you will have most pre-reqs completed by fall.</p>
<p>@KarmaGo Poli - Stats is your only math, it’s important that you finish your only math by fall, I say go with the B.</p>
