So last night I posted about emailing professors at a local college to do research over the summer! Today my school told me they want to send me to Governor's Honor program.

My question for CC is which should I go for?

Might want to tell us what the governor’s honor program is before we can help you. Also what state. State level things are bigger deals in, say, CA or NY, then they are in WY or MT. (Did I get those abbreviations right? I’m not sure. :P)

It depends on your state and on the internship you’re offered.
Talk to the professor about what you will be able to do to see if you like it. And be careful, since what they say might sound fanciful but in reality, meh…
I was told that I would do lab work and draw brain maps - sounds fun, but it’s actually not and I regret it
Btw, great username ;)

Okay: I’m in Georgia and I don’t know the competitiveness of the program. But basically governors honors interviews and chooses several nominated students to study at a college in the subject area they choose for a month. I’d do a science. For the research opportunity I don’t know if they even have any research going on, I wasn’t going to email them till I got my SAT scores next week but I have to decide if I want to do governors honors next week!

I think Virginia has a similar program called Governor
s School, and for summer research it
s called the Residential Governor`s School.

If I did Research it would not be done through the state, it would be done through a professsor at a
Local college if they have any opportunities

if it was me i would do research

depends on what you want to do for college.

Looking at engineering, my hope is MIT

for engineering its kind of iffy, especially if you are planning on going to a top notch engineering school (MIT, CalTech, Berkeley, UIUC, etc.). Schools like those like seeing depth, not breadth. They also like to see the fact that the person that is applying to their college is unique in his own way, with his own achievements that make him standout from other candidates. IMO: You should do the Governor’s Honors Program - many, and trust me when i say this, many kids do various types of research over the summer - so you really wont be distinguishing yourself from other candidates.

I’d say that doing your own research is a bigger deal than taking a class.

You already take classes. Try something different. Distinguish yourself with the quality of the research.
