help me please

hi, i'm an international student hoping to study in america. i really like umich. however, my parents always wanted me to go to top schools like harvard and MIT (those two are the only US colleges my parents recognize anyway).
when i told them i wanted umich, they were like "what kind of university is that? i've never heard of it. it's a big waste of money to study in US and get a low class university. i'd rather you studied in indonesia (my country) or singapore."

what am i supposed to do? i feel like my parents are brainwashed by college rankings (i really abhor those). they always disdain my convincing words about umich being a great university.

what should i say to them?

please help me..

PS = i want to study ECE

thank you so much!

Hello there, glad to hear that someone from Indonesia is interested in Umich. What are your college choices? Have you applied to Michigan and other schools yet? What are your stats? There's a lot of Indonesian students studying at the University, and most of them are in the North campus (Engineering). They chose Michigan Engin particularly because of its reputation. In fact, almost all if not all of the Engineering departments are ranked top 10 in the nation. Still, Harvard and MIT are on a whole different level, and only a handful accepted at all three would choose Michigan over HYPMS.
