Help me understand!

Im really confused about the system of legal education in the US.
I want to know what prelaw is, where you study it and how long it is?

This is how I understand it, correct me if I'm wrong.

Pre-law can be an undergraduate major, although according to these boards, it is not a major that law schools like to see. They would rather you major in something else (doesn't really matter, apparently.)

At some schools, pre-law is not a major at all. You can just declare an intent to go to law school. In other words, you can be "pre-law" without really studying anything very intensively that involves the law.

Hope this helps

pre-law is a state of mind. pre-law means your intent is to go to law school. however, most schools don't have a pre-law major. you can major in anything really and be pre-law. some schools offer "legal studies" majors. pre-law doesn't mean you have to go law, it's just an option though. schools let students declare pre-law...for undergraduate advising though.
