Hey guys, I'm having trouble deciding taking either calculus and AP environmental science or take pre calculus with ap computer science and ap envrionmental science. The reason I excluded ap computer science is because I believe calculus will be heavy work load and I dont think I can handle that. Also I'm getting major headaches on whether I should skip pre calculus. I took a summer program on pre calc and completed pre calculus course on khan academy. (I'm a nerd, I know.) But I think if I don't skip it I would have another easy class which frees up my time for another ap class. P.S I havent took any ap classes yet, my high school only offers ap classes to juniors and seniors. This is why I am bulking up my transcript with ap's.

I’d stick with precalc, it’s better to have a very firm grasp of it before moving on to calc. Also, don’t get caught up in the number of APs trap, it won’t help your application. Take the classes you want to. Your rigor is compared to your school. If your school doesn’t offer APs until junior year, you won’t be penalized or expected to take more of them.

I asked a lot of my friends, they said that pre calc is basically advanced algebra 2. If you complete the section on khan academy you will have no problems. Also, how can the college admissioner know if my hihh school don’t offer to lower classmen? Or do I have to include that in my app.

Your school sends in a school report to all colleges you apply to which includes information about average gpas, grading scale, class size, course restrictions, etc. It is a mandatory form sent in with your transcript and GC letter- so admissions officers will know. Precalc is not advanced algebra 2. Most of the concepts are brand new and focus specifically on the foundational math you need for calculus. It is very important to know the class well or you won’t do well in calculus.
