I started my junior year of high school a few weeks ago, and I'm starting to think about my senior year schedule, but I have somewhat of a dilemma. I took algebra in 8th grade because that was the earliest my school at the time offered it. I switched schools my freshman year and my stupid 14 year old self decided not to take algebra 2 and trig combined in my sophomore year. So now as a junior I'm in trig 1st semester and will take the first half of pre-calculus 2nd semester. In order to take calculus next year, I'll have to take it at the same time as the 2nd half of pre-calc. This doesn't seem to be very appealing to me, especially since I'm planning on also taking AP Spanish, AP Biology, AP World Lit, and AP Psychology. So my question is, would it hurt my chances if I didn't take Calculus, but instead just took Statistics?

Each person has his/her own unique circumstance. Although not taking calculus could seriously hinder your application, the point lies in you not trying your absolute hardest. Taking two semester of math analysis in the same semester would not kill you nor should it be overly difficult. Topics covered in math analysis (sorry Pre-calc, at my school it's called math analysis) are just in-depth expansions of topic of algebra III/college algebra. If you are committed you should have no problems. My suggestion would be take the two semesters of pre-calc this year and take calc next year, otherwise you could lose a point or two for not challenging yourself to your utmost potential. I know that all those APs can seem overwhelming but a little organization and I am sure you'll fit it into your life. Thousands of CCers do it every year so...

Its not possible for me to take the two semesters of pre-calc this year. If I could I would. But thanks for your response. I probably will end up taking pre-calc and calculus at the same time next year, even though I don't really want to. But I guess I want to go to Yale more.

Can you take precalc during the summer at some local college (it can be a community college)? Then you can take calc during your last HS year. Schools would love to see you take that initiative.

Precalc is easy so don't fret it.

I thought about that, but I'm going to be really busy this summer. I'm planning on having a part time job and I'll be playing a lot of tennis and studying for SAT subject tests and possibly the SAT and doing summer school assignments, and I'm probably going to India for a month. So, yeah, I would rather not take a pre-calc course. But thanks for the suggestion! I'm not too worried about it anymore, I'll just have to suck it up, I suppose.
