help! medium, southern college

hey! i am a freshmen starting looking at colleges. I already basically know what I am looking at just from looking at colleges with my sister.

I want:

a medium sized 4 year college or university (4,000 to 12,000 undergrads) I could go a little bigger but preferably not smaller.

within 1,000 miles of Tallahassee FL

I really think I want to go to medical school, so a college with a great pre med/biology/health sciences program (or a major that prepares you well for med school)

under 60% selectivity

I know that most schools are extremely liberal but I would prefer not too liberal

Thank you so much for suggestions!

Do you have any preferences between urban, suburban and rural?

suburban or urban. thank you so much for help!

elizabeth273 suburban or urban

Furman, Elon, wake forest

Tulane, Duke, SMU, UNC-W

We also need to know what you can afford and what your test scores and GPA are.

And ignoring your arbitrary maximum acceptance rate for a second, College of Charleston, UA-Huntsville, and UA-Birmingham.

In addition to ones listed above you can check into University of Richmond ( a little over 4,000 students).

usualhopeful - afford: it’s not a concern at this point

test scores: I have done very well on standardized testing in my past. in 7th grade I qualified through the duke tip program to take the sat. I took it but I have no idea how I did on it

also, I would love it if the school has a strong athletic department. I don’t want to play but it’s just a big deal to me. as long as it’s in NCAA. but preferably d1

also someone suggested fgsu I think. what is it and where

UNC Wilmington. Fits all of your criteria and has pretty good D1 athletics.

William and Mary, Washington and Lee and Emory-Oxford. I think that everybody has now covered all of the best options.

how is unc Wilmington academics?

UNCW is a terrific school, and its degree carries high value and weight in the south. It’s a fantastic growing school that is only getting more and more academically formidable each day. Professors are very engaging and challenge you to learn the material rather than just spit it out on a test.
