Help my stupid friend

I am trying to help a good friend of mine who is really dumb. She got into the boarding school because her aunt works in the admissions. Actually she has a great family legacy_stanford, northwestern, ivies etc. She is really nice, pretty and easy to talk to except she is just really stupid in academics. It's not like she doesn't work hard and deserves bad grades. She tries hard in all her classes, stays up till midnight doing homework and stuff but just fails miserably and noone knows how she manages to do so bad. She is an international student(asian) and she wants to go to a four year college and I really hope she can go to a college other than CC because I have seen her working hard in the dorm but her stats are so bad that I don't even know if there are 4 year colleges out there that will accept her.
Her stats are - 3.0~3.5 weighted about 2.xx Unweighted. (regular courses. ESL in Junior year)
SAT : 1300/2400(2nd time taking), She took it again in dec so she may pull it up to 1400~1500.
EC: club vice president and nothing else.
Awards: NONE

Can you guys recommend any 4 year state school that she has a chance?
Right now, she is looking at Uof washington, u of illinois, u of michigan ann arbor, MSU, Sunies but I really dont think she has chances at any of these schools and I just can't tell her although I know she might be rejected from all and has nowhere to go in the future. So I want to recommend her some schools that she actually has decent chances and she asked me to help her out. Please recommend me some schools for her. And NOT CC

^ She wants to major in business. Like what kind of state schools? Can you name some please? She is looking in to some top state schools as stated above with those stats and no hook. Her essay is terrible too(spelling, grammar mistakes, mostly, a madeup story) and I wish her the best but I just can’t tell her that she is aiming high. She doesnt have any safeties.

BTW her SAT score is not CR+M 1300. Its CR+M+W = 1300…

I’m sorry, but if she scored a 1300 on the SAT, Michigan at Ann Arbor is easily out of her reach. She needs to bring that WAY up.

Maybe UC Merced or UC Riverside?

I wonder if she has a learning disability of some kind. Maybe suggest that she be tested for them.

the stupid friend = thread starter

What state does she live in? In my opinion it’s silly for someone to go to an out of state college unless it’s better than any instate college they could get into, and I doubt that’s the case for her.

Check the average for the University of her state, and if that’s not going to work “_______ state.” If she lives in Michigan (maybe a couple other states too), that’s not going to work, but Eastern has a good business program (I’m told) and they don’t really reject people.

she wont get into uw

maybe ASU

The California State University schools if she want to go to California.

I would think that she would struggle at almost any credible 4 year college/university. It’s not clear what purpose that would serve. If she’s in a state with decent 2-year community colleges, then she would do well to give one of these a try. It’s not a stigma :frowning: She may want to redo the basics (math, English especially) because her poor grades may be a result of a poor foundation. Many CC students overcome their academic challeneges and end up at excellent 4-year state colleges/universities after 2 years at the CC.

Since not everyone needs to go to college, she may want to think about alternatives. There are many trades that do not require college. She could find a trade school, or she can apprentice. And perhaps a 2-3 year pause in a trade may set the stage for considering college later on in life.

I agree with fogcity.

+1 to fogity.

First, a CC isn’t bad.

Secondly, why not try becoming a plumber, electrician, or other useful trade. There is a chronic shortage of tradesman.
