Hi I plan to apply to UC berkeley economics or Haas, probably economics since my ECs arnt that strong.

I went to 2 CCs and i was gonna not turn in one of my transcripts where I got 2 Ws in calc 1 and an A in macroeconomics. This semester, i took macro economics at my second community college where most of my classes are. After browsing this forum, i found they can actually find out which colleges you went to.

My question is, should I just stick with this Macro-economics class just so I don't get a W or should I just drop it because I already took it at another college?

I want to drop it because it is so boring, feels redundant and I am somewhat risking my GPA (i have a B+ right now). On the other hand, this will be another W on my record. I have 4 Ws as of now.

you should never be dishonest with your academic history. if they find out, which they can do, you are automatically rejected. having some W’s are not a big problem. just explain what made you drop the classes. i am applying this year and have tons of W’s and 2 F’s.

Agree with @passwordis123. Schools use a clearing house. It would not be too hard for them to find out you omitted a transcript.

Hello Luckkyy13,

First, you cannot hide ANYTHING from them. Not only can they find out, they will find out and you must disclose every attempted course. Anything you are uneasy about should be addressed and explained in your 500 words or less comments portion of the application. What did you get the first time around? UC Berkeley gives clear instructions that students should not re-take courses they received a C- or better in, and they wouldnt accept your new grade anyways if you did.

While Ws arent the end of the world, they definitely do not like seeing patterns of Ws, so your 2 in Calc may hurt you, and a total of 5 would definitely be of concern to them. You will have to have some significant reasons and explanations for these. Im not trying to make you feel like crap, Im just telling you now. Have you checked Assist.org?

Another thing I noticed is you said Econ or Haas. If you are truly prepared for Haas admission, you are most likely not prepared for Econ admission as it is under L&S, and vice versa. All colleges at UCB want clear and demonstrated planning for admission, and Haas requirements are completely different than the rest of UCB. Also, being that you are applying for Fall 2011, you will need only one Calc, the Literature and Writing requirement, and the 7 course breadth. If you were applying next year, you would need 2 Calc, no L&W, and Breadth is no longer required for admission (for Haas).

Hope this helps,

Just to go a little further with the aforementioned… If “they”, the UC system, do indeed find out that you knowingly kept academic information from them you are ineligible for admission to the UC system on any level (graduate, pHd, ect.) for your lifetime.

So ask yourself, is this in any way worth it?!

@dnoland332 I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to apply to so I already took just about every course there is for both majors. Its only a couple more extra classes.

guys i KNOW i cant hide stuff from them and what happens if they see you did not send in everything. I read some threads on it already. you don’t have to keep reiterating it.

My question is should i take or keep my current Macro Economics class, which I already took at another college for an A already.
