So I just got back my June Act scores and was shocked by a 33 since I hadn't prepped at all for this test since taking the April test, which I also got a 33 in without any significant preparation. Here are my breakdowns:

April
M:36
E:34
R:32
S:29
W:8

June
M:32 (really confused by this since I felt like I got another 36)
E:34
R:32
S:32
W:9

My superscore comes out to a 33.5, which rounds to a 34. Ultimately however, I want to know which score is better to send to non-superscoring schools. Also, I'd like to know if it is worth my summer to prepare for one last ACT to get a higher score, as I will be busy preparing for applications and 5 AP classes. Any and all advice is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks!!

That’s a pretty tough call, but I (this is purely my opinion since I am def. not apart of any college admissions) would send the June scores because it demonstrates that you did relatively well in all aspects of the ACT. (Though that 36 Math looks pretty snazzy). Even though you didn’t do as well as you did previously in math, you did better in your essay and science section.

But, I’m sure if you prepare over the summer time you could raise all aspects of your scores, and maybe you won’t have a dilemma I think you could get a higher math score if you’ve already scored a 36 before, and a higher english score easily. If you really are swamped with work, you don’t have to study super intensely, but it really won’t hurt you. You can also start on your application now, even though they tech. release it in August, nothing about the 2014-2015 application is different from the 2013-2014 application. The essay questions will be the same, and you can start on supplemental essay questions because most colleges have released them.

Side note, out of curiosity , how are you going to prepare for your 5 AP classes in the summer time? I realize that I, too, should start to prepare for my AP classes so that I don’t get killed in the school year

If you end up not retaking the test, send both test scores.

I’d recommend, however, that you study and retake the ACT in late September. It really doesn’t take all summer to do your college applications and “prepare” for your 5 AP classes. If you can move that composite 33 up to a 35 or 36, it would certainly strengthen your application.

@K1Helen I have already finished all the Common App essays and have filled out the 2013-2014 Common App essay as part of an AP Eng. Lang. and Comp. final, so that part is mostly done, but supplements are going to be consuming. As for my AP classes, I’m assigned summer work so that when I start school in September, we will be ahead in our studies to have ample time for in-class prep for the exams.
