Hey all, so here is the problem that I'm facing. I went to a 4 year university (at a UC) and studied all the way to my fourth year as a biochemistry major but had a really really low GPA (2.45). I realized that biochemistry was not something that I was really interested in, but due to family pressures I continued down that path thinking that eventually I will come to like what I'm learning, well this didn't happen... I did not complete the degree because I was short a few required classes, but I still want to continue on with school. This time towards a major that I actually enjoy (Computer Engineering). The question that I wanted to ask is if I can just go to a community college and take the prereqs for engineering to transfer to a CSU as if I was a new undergrad. Also I know some of the classes I took would work toward the engineering degree (like math and physics). Would that work since most of the classes for a biochemistry major is different than an engineering major? Technically since I did not complete my first degree I am still considered as a student who is working towards his first bachelors degree right? And would I qualify for federal student aid (total amount I burrowed for my first 4 years was around $20k). I'm just looking for the best route to earn a BS in Computer Engineering. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I’m also majoring in biochem, why u didn’t like it? How’s the job perspective after u graduate may I ask?

It was just something that I don’t care much for or had any motivation to actually learn about. Job perspective for someone with only BS in biochem is very limited. Usually going to grad school is what is expected of biochem majors.

Hi sakket, I don’t know much about CSU, but, I think you should take a look at what courses are needed as pre reqs for a Computer Engineering program there. Once you have done that, I think that you should go ahead and attend a CC and complete those courses and then apply. Maybe with the determination you will end up doing extremely well.
How many credits do you have, are you way past the 60?

Hi MRock21, Thanks for getting back to me. I am actually way past 60 as I said before I got up to my 4th year, but I actually had to drop out due to economical problems within my family requiring me to work full time therefore I was a few classes short of actually getting my degree. Now that the family’s financial situations is back to normal and I had time to rethink my future career plans I am more motivated to go back to school to get a degree. This time in a field that I would love. I guess you can say it was also a good thing that I did not finish my degree so technically I’m still working towards my first bachelors. From my understanding many schools wouldn’t accept someone going for their second bachelors. I have sat down with the counselors at the CC that I’m planning to attend this fall as to map out what is needed to transfer into CSU. (prereqs, etc.) I just wanted to know if anyone had any advice for me, whether or not this would work or better yet if someone has walked the same path that I am about to embark. Thanks!
