<p>Hi,
I am picking between Louisiana State University and Arizona State University. I was admitted to both and with my financial packages, both will have similar costs. I am out of state for both. I really really really liked both when I visited, and my opinions of both went way up after each visit. I applied for Political Science for both, but am really thinking about changing it because I want something more "practical", I am THINKING about business/computer science, but not really sure at all. Both are ranked about the same overall on usnews, ASU has a higher rated business school, but I am not sure if that's what I want to do (just considering it), plus, I am not going to a school for it's ranking (though it can't have a terrible ranking, want it to be respectable, which both are). Things that are important to me: Lots of things going on ON campus, Lots of people on campus, school spirit (they both have d1 sports, though LSU has better ones), lots of out of state people (both have high percentages), a decent Jewish presence on campus, and just a fun place to be. I am from Houston and I like that LSU is close to Houston, I currently live in NM and ASU is closer (doesn't really matter), I like that ASU is by a really big city, but was initially put off that it's in the desert, but you can't really tell in Tempe, you could be in California. I liked Tempe a lot, and Phoenix. But I Also like Baton Rouge and loved New Orleans. I would like to move to Houston or Austin afterwords, and There are more people that went to LSU there, so that might help me landing a job, I'm not really sure. One big edge ASU has over LSU is the Jewish community is larger there, I am Jewish and I like the idea of going to a school with lots of Jewish kids, after going to a high school with almost none. However, there are some Jewish kids at LSU, and I think I would join a Jewish Frat (SAM), so that could be fine, not sure. Both had really nice campuses, which I liked a lot. I don't know a lot of people going to either, so that's not really an issue. For LSU I found a room mate that I haven't met, but is friends with lots of people I know from Houston. For ASU, I'd be doing random. This doesn't really matter much. Oh, for my scholarships, at ASU I would have to keep a 3.25, at LSU a 3.0 I'm not sure what kind of difference this makes. I have been like a 3.2-3.3 UW student in HS in all AP/preAPs who hasn't studied much, but is aware college is much different.
Please help me choose, this is really tough!</p>
<p>How hard would it be on your family if you lost your scholarship? Would you have to transfer? (I definitely like a school where you need a 3.0 to keep your scholarship.)</p>
<p>Hardly anything goes on here on campus besides sporting events. On campus is pretty dull. I’m a Jew here, and quite honestly I didn’t like any of the Jewish organizations here. If that’s a concern, then LSU is really not such a great idea. </p>
<p>If you’re a big sports fan who wants to root for a team that is a title contender in most sports, then LSU is just about as good as you can ask for.</p>

I really care that stuff goes on on campus, but I also really like sporting events. Why did you choose lsu then?</p>
<p>Also, does anyone know if a degree from lsu looks better than a degree from asu living in texas, where there are lots of people that go to lsu? I would like to live in Texas afterwords. Is ASU significantly better at comp sci and business than lsu, there is a gap in the usnews ranking, I don’t know how significant it is (ASU 25, LSU 58 in business), but I don’t really know if I want to do that anyways, so I need a place with lots of good options. Anyone else know anything about campus life at the schools?</p>
<p>ASU has a higher jewish population, better area overall, hotter women, better business school. The sports are about even besides football in LSU’s favor. Also, I wouldn’t risk the possibility of a hurricane. ASU all the way.</p>
<p>okay I know it’s after may 1, but I still haven’t decided. It doesn’t look like ASU has anything due for a while, and LSU just had some pretty cheap things I had to pay for, so I just decided to do it so I can spend more time deciding.
ASU does have a higher ranked business school, but it doesn’t seem to be a huge difference. Also, Tempe does seem pretty cool. But I really dislike the desert, I am tired of it. And about it being a CC attached to a football team, people make similar claims about ASU as well. Is getting a 3.25 significantly harder then getting a 3.0 (3.25 at ASU vs 3.0 at LSU)? I really need help making my decision. Also, I have emailed people at Hillel and they tell me that even though the Jewish population is small, it’s very active, but it is still small. And I’m not too worried about the hurricane thing, during Katrina people from NOLA came to Baton Rouge because it didn’t get much damage. The past few days, after visiting ASU, I have been leaning towards ASU, but then every time I look at pictures of LSU and Baton Rouge it just changes my mind, since it reminds me of my hometown (Houston). I visited LSU first and loved it and wanted to go. Then I visited ASU and loved it and wanted to go. And now I’m just not sure. Please help, it is getting late! Also, if I decide late what is the latest I can register for classes and still get what I need? I’m not too picky, I just want to get the required classes so I graduate on time.</p>
<p>^It’s not passed the deadline, ASU and LSU don’t have a may 1 deadline. I had to register for orientation for LSU, accept scholarships, and apply for housing, but those were very small fees. ASU doesn’t require doing anything until August it seems. So I have no commitments.</p>

I keep changing my mind. ASU seems very cool, but does the smaller percentage of people on campus and worse football team make it seem more like a commuter school? Or is there tons of school spirit? ALSO I hate the desert, and am worried I would regret the move, since ASU is still desert, though many people say PHX is more west coast than southwest and with all the palm trees and stuff that are planted there maybe it does have that feel? (Hard to judge on my visits there really). I really like how green baton rouge and LSU are (and just how beautiful LSU is), which to me, is it’s main selling point. PLEASE HELP, I really need to decide. Also with LSU I am #48 on their housing waitlist, what is my chance of actually getting housing there? They say they will notify me late july-early august. I would like to live in a dorm and I think ASU guarantees it to incoming freshman (it seemed that way on the housing tour from what the tour guide said).</p>
