i'm going to city college of san francisco as a freshman. i want to major in environmental engineering, and i want to go to cal, ucsd, or uci. here's where the problem is. in order to transfer to cal majoring in env engineering, i need to have 80% of the courses finished by spring 2011, which is possible, but very difficult because of time. if i want to go to cal, i have to stay at ccsf for three years, and if i don't get in, i'll have nowhere else to go because ucsd and uci have very different requirements. if i want to go to ucsd or uci, i need two years, but both schools also have different requirements. so basically, if i complete the requirements for a school, i HAVE to be accepted at that school.

any advice? should i just take the full courseload for a school and hope i get in? should i tag ucsd and uci and forget about berkeley? should i just change my major?

any answers are GREATLY appreciated. i have to make a choice by spring 2010.

i don’t see why it would take so long. most of the engineering prereqs overlap. You can’t tag with ucsd for engineering.

I’m guessing you would be continuing past a bachelors degree? I personally would go with UCSD/UCI Route, because at least you are GUARANTEED a spot there, whereas Berkeley, as you know, isn’t as easy.

Best of luck!

that’s right…

like evan said, aim low.

i would take the courses I need in order to better my chances for my top school. I would only do this if I thought I had a decent chance at getting in and if the school required an essay where I could explain why I chose the classes I took.

I totally didn’t mean it that way, haha. Go for it if that’s what you really want. And, as Jet Force said above, you can’t TAG UCSD for your major.

Timetraveler, I only said that because you seem to be on a time constraint from what I read above.

easy:

1.take all the classes for UCB, apply, see if you get in

2.if you get accepted, congrats

if not :
travel back in time and do the ucsd/uci route

@JetForcegeminix: it would take longer because berkeley differs from san diego by 5 classes, and san diego from berkeley by 3 classes. i don’t think i’d be able to do anything but school if i wanted to go to berkeley.

@theregoesevan: now i found out i’m not guaranteed a spot at sd through TAG, so… i’m screwed with whatever i choose. i’d also like to transfer in two years to graduate with my class, even though i don’t REALLY have to.

@nproamr: i think i do have A chance of getting in. i think it’s like 35% or something. i don’t think they ask me why i chose the classes i took.

@loller90278: haha, if only i could. i think i’m screwed no matter what.

Irvine is poppin’. :P

irvine sounds cool, but they probably don’t have a transfer agreement for env engineering either. maybe i should try applying for private schools also.
