HELP! questions about south campus

Hey,
I am an incoming freshman (class of 2012).
My major is Nursing.
I was placed in the South Campus, although I originally applied to placed in Ellicott (North Campus).
I have classes in both, the South Campus and the North Campus…so I guess it is not that bad.
I am going to have to go to Michael Hall, which is also home to the Student Health Center and the Student Pharmacy.

I mostly visited the North Campus.
However, I had the opportunity to hastily drop by the South Campus
during Orientation. Thus, I don’t exactly know how the South Campus really is… and I have some questions!!

How is the South Campus overall? Is it safe? Is it fun? Are there a lot of parties in the South Campus? What is located around it (stores, restaurants, etc.)?

How is Michael Hall? I saw a picture of it on the internet and it looked unsightly, to say the least. I am hoping the inside of the building is a lot nicer. If you have lived in Michael Hall, or know someone who has, what was it like to live there? How are the rooms in Michael Hall? (I am in a double). Who lives in Michael Hall? Is it strictly a freshman-only dorm? Michael Hall is the same building as MacDonald Hall, Prichard Hall, and Schoellkoph Hall. So anybody who has lived in the other three previously mentioned halls, any remarks will also be useful.

Please respond. I really want to know, considering it is going to be my home for a year.
I don’t want to be unpleasantly surprised later on.

Any reply will be helpful!
If anyone can answer any of my questions, it would be VERY appreciated.
Thanks. :)

South Campus has more to do outside of the campus setting. Across the street there is a few restaurants and stores and ALL of the frat houses are right down the street. (You won't need to catch the "drunk bus" home because you are close enough to walk). I lived in Goodyear Hall which is, in my opinion, the nicest dorm at UB and the only friends I had in Michael Hall did not like it very much and always came to my room. It is not very safe considering the surrounding "ghetto" but if you make sure you are with other people at night you are fine. The trip from South to classes on North is not bad at all as there are buses ATLEAST every 10-15min. You will have a better time on South Campus, guaranteed. I am just not sure about Michael Hall.

dcro1540, thank you very much for your response.

South campus is not safe at all. And the neighborhood is even worse. But you will be fine if you stay on campus at night.
