How would you rank these colleges? I'm in for a bio major but I may switch over to business. UConn looks like a great public and I got full ride, but Pitt and Fordham lure me due to their urban locations. Advice? Should I just go to UConn for free and consider transferring 2 years down the road? Or stay in UConn and apply to higher tier grad school? Or plunk down the money for Fordham 35 g's total w/ aid money, or Pitt (no aid). Oh yeah, is Purdue worth taking a look at for business over all of these?

I say take the free ride, neither Pitt or Fordham is worth the cost. Why would you spend thousands just to live in a city, when you can use that money either for grad school, a downpayment on a place in the city after you graduate from college, or for many other things. UConn is a great school, and like you said, if you can transfer out later if you feel the need to be in a different city/location.

Free ride all the way. Use the money and summer in Paris. Seriously.

I would chose UConn even if you had to pay for it.... the school has more potential for growth than the other 2.

A full ride is hard to turn down and, in this case, it is with a school that is at least equal to the others, if not stronger. While the urban experience is something you desire, you will find that at many schools your focus will be on campus and with other students, so urban, suburban, rural will be less of a concern once you are actually there.

Go Huskies!

My child had a similar dilemna a couple of years ago. She had a free ride at UConn honors program vs. hefty tuition at Boston University. She was also deferred at U of Chicago EA. She made the decision to go to UConn until U of Chicago accepted her regular decision. In her case the decision to go to U of Chicago was made because the school was far superior to UConn for what she wanted to study and UConn agreed with her. In your case, I would have to say that UConn is equal to if not superior to the other schools you got into for what you want to study, so why throw out the money. Go to UConn. It is a great school. If you were talking about an Ivy or a top ten with a superior program for what you want to study, then maybe worth the sacrifice.

I'ld say go with UConn. It's a good school especially for the bio majors (I am one about to go into my senior year). There are cities nearby too that you can easily visit if you want to. I would definitely suggest taking the free ride.

TAKE THE FREE RIDE.

UConn is a good state school that will offer you a good education. You'll graduate debt-free. And probably get into a very good grad school which you'll actually be able to afford! Most grads can't same the same. Feel lucky you will.

Go to UCONN and use the money for semesters abroad or a fantastic unpaid internship somewhere. Last time I checked, Pitt was ranked higher but I think UCONN offers business-school opportunities in New England and New York that might be harder to tap into if you go to Pitt.

One of my kids got into both too (Pitt is in-state for us) and really wanted UCONN but didn't get any $ to help with the out-of-state cost. I guess the grass is always greener. I don't know much about Fordham, but I've read some mixed reviews about it.

In the interests of disclosure, I'm a UCONN alumni, had a great time there a long, long time ago, and I had no problem with getting into grad school.

We are talking about 150,000 here. Unless money is not an issue, I will agree with all the posters above me. UConn is a very good school. You will find plenty of opportunities in either Bio major or Business.

This is just my humble opinion. :)
