Help! Tax Forms

I'm in big trouble and I am panicking now (actually, I was pretty much sobbing...but...).What will happen if I send my tax forms in late? It turns out that they were due to two of my schools by Feb. 15 and one by today. I knew about today's date, but did not know that the other deadlines had passed before I was browsing websites today for addresses to send everything off. I sent CSS profile and FAFSA (with 2004 info) a long time ago. My Dad said that he would do my 2005 tax stuff for me, but all he did was my taxes. Then he just left copies of them in the printer for me! I really had no idea what to do! He is in Chicago right now on a business trip (he will be back tomorrow). I tried to do everything myself, but I really don't know what to do. I asked my mom for help but she didn't know what to do either. She just started yelling at me about how she thought she only had to take the stuff to the post office and how she'd be late for my brother's physical, etc.

So, the point of this is that this stuff is due today (or was already due), my Dad has not signed it, and he is in on a business trip. Should I just wait for him to get home? I don't have his cell phone number since he recently got a new phone, or I would call him and ask what to do.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.

Nevermind, I guess. I contacted my dad through email and he told me to wait.

You can call the financial aid offices at the schools & let them know the situation. They might put a note in your file & it might help that you have contacted them. Financial Aid Deadlines are very important, so the calls would definitely be worth making. I've read & been told that not meeting deadlines is one way they weed out a lot of applications.

Emmery,

Many schools are used to things not being in their offices by the deadline. Do call the financial aid offices, and try not to panic. I worked as an intern in a financial aid office of a national LAC, and there were lots of loose ends being tied up even in the summers. They may mean the deadlines to be set in stone, but it is possible they will be a little flexible. I would think you should try to pin your dad down as to how quickly he can get the tax information to the colleges, so you can let them know an approximate time. Good luck!

Thanks so much! Your post was very helpful. When he gets home tonight, I'll tell him what you said and I will call the schools tomorrow.

edit: Posts, not post! I didn't notice that two people had replied. Thanks. Both were helpful.

When I call, what should I say? I called one of the schools and just apologized and asked how it would affect my financial aid, etc. I really don't know what to do...
