*HELP* Transfer students essay problem

I just started writing the personal statement for the transfer application and came across the optional essay question. I thought the essay sounds better if I combine the two essays into one so I combined the two pieces together. I just want to know if doing so will hurt my chances getting in Tulane as a transfer.

The two essay questions are as follow:

By using this application, you are not required to submit a formal essay. However, we do ask that you write a personal statement (at least 250 words) – allowing Tulane to get an idea of who you are beyond your grades, classes and test scores. Please use this as an opportunity to tell the admission committee something about yourself that the application hasn’t already covered that we may take into consideration when reviewing your application.

Please describe why you are interested in attending Tulane. (Optional)

It’s probably OK, I would just explain (briefly!) in a cover note why you made that decision. Otherwise they might think you just skipped one of the two essays, and despite being marked “optional”, they really do like to see both completed.

But I can see how answering the one could easily be a better essay if it contained the answer to the other, and you don’t want to be redundant. Like I said, just point out to them that is what you did.
