Best of luck to you-- UChicago is a wonderful school and I hope the financial aid stuff works out.
Just curious - what about Northeastern didn’t appeal to you?
It’s way too big, and the atmosphere overall was weird. The University Scholars is an amazing program, but just not for me…
A kid who’s so intellectual they’ll like UChicago just won’t thrive in the NEU atmosphere of preprofessionalism… There’s an adult poster here who strongly recommended NEU for anyone interested in topics like philosophy, she can tell you all about it.
Being intellectual means you won’t thrive at neu? That’s not my experience. Sure, like any school it’s not the best fit for everyone, but I haven’t felt like it’s overly professional at the expense of intellectual components. I’ve never planned on going into the workforce after graduation, and things like co-op are useful for figuring out what interests you outside of the classroom, not just from a professional perspective. But again, not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea.

It depends what you’re interested in but for kids interested in humanities in their arcane, specialized aspects, NEU isn’t the right school. UChicago interests a very specific type of kid.
However, I’m really not sure Loyola would be better than NEU, and if OP is science-focused NEU scholars should be tops.
